Classic Vanilla Horns
- 700 g (4 1/2 cups) all-purpose flour
- 200 g (7 oz) cold unsalted butter
- 15 g (1 tablespoon) vanilla sugar with real vanilla
- Granulated sugar for coating
1. 1. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and place it in a food processor along with the flour and vanilla sugar. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. 2. Transfer the dough to a clean surface and gently knead it for a few seconds until it comes together and becomes smooth. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
3. 3. Shape the dough into a long, thin log, approximately 3 cm (1 1/4 inches) in diameter. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
4. 4. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
5. 5. Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1/2 cm (1/4 inch) thick pieces.
6. 6. Roll each piece of dough into a small ball and then shape it into a curved horn, resembling a crescent moon. Place the shaped horns on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
7. 7. Bake the horns in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are lightly golden brown. If the horns spread too much during baking, you can add a little more flour to the dough before shaping the remaining horns.
8. 8. While the horns are still warm, carefully remove them from the oven. Place some granulated sugar in a shallow dish and dip each horn into the sugar, coating it evenly.
9. 9. Allow the horns to cool completely on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy your homemade Classic Vanilla Horns with a cup of coffee or tea.
