Creamy Brussels Sprouts Gratin with Christmas Ham and Bacon
I love serving this Brussels sprouts gratin at holiday gatherings. The combination of tender sprouts, rich Christmas ham, and crispy bacon is absolute perfection. It's a dish that never fails to impress my guests and it's become a staple in our home during the holidays. The flavors meld together beautifully, creating a savory and satisfying side dish that complements any festive meal. It's a true showstopper that's sure to delight your loved ones.
Ingredients
  • 450g/1 pound Brussels sprouts trimmed and halved
  • 300g/10 1/2 ounces cooked Christmas ham diced
  • 375ml/1 1/2 cups grated cheese
  • 375ml/1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3g/1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6g/1 teaspoon salt
Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (225°C).

2. Blanch the Brussels sprouts in lightly salted water for 10 minutes then drain and sauté them in a skillet until slightly caramelized - if using red cabbage thinly slice it and sauté until slightly caramelized.

3. In a separate skillet cook the diced Christmas ham until lightly browned.

4. In a large bowl whisk together the heavy cream eggs and grated cheese then season with salt and black pepper to taste - add the cooked Brussels sprouts and Christmas ham to the bowl and mix well.

5. Transfer the mixture to a 23x33cm or 9x13-inch baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

6. Meanwhile cook the bacon until crispy then crumble it into small pieces and sprinkle the crispy bacon over the gratin before serving.
