Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup active dry yeast
  • 4 3/4 cups all-purpose flour plus extra as needed
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp light syrup
  • 3/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
Instructions

1. Combine yeast egg and warm milk in a large mixing bowl.

2. Let it sit for 5 minutes or until yeast is activated.

3. Add melted butter flour and salt to the bowl. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5. Place the dough in a greased bowl cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).

7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 20 equal pieces.

8. Roll each piece into a ball then flatten it slightly into a disk shape.

9. Place the disks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper leaving about 2.5 cm of space between each bun.

10. Brush the tops with a little water and sprinkle with rolled oats.

11. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.

12. Let the buns cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving.
