Grandmas Sugar Rings

Grandmas Sugar Rings
My grandmother's old sugar ring recipe is a classic delight I just can't get enough of. Soft and fluffy on the inside with a perfectly caramelized sugar crust - it's a treat that never fails to put a smile on my face. I remember helping her shape the dough into rings as a child, the sweet aroma of sugar and butter filling our kitchen. It's a timeless favorite that's perfect for cozy afternoons with a warm cup of coffee or as a sweet surprise for loved ones.
Ingredients
  • 450g / 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 225g / 1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened
  • 120ml / 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 120g / 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 6g / 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
Instructions

1. Chill the dough in the fridge by combining 2 1/4 cups (285g) of flour 1/2 cup (100g) of sugar and 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar in a bowl.

2. Add 1/2 cup (115g) of softened butter and mix until a dough forms.

3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch (6mm) thickness.

5. Cut the dough into 7 inch (18cm) long strips.

6. Form each strip into a ring shape and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

7. Prepare the rings for baking by brushing them with milk or water and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

8. Bake the rings to perfection by placing the baking sheet in the middle of the oven and baking at 392°F (200°C) for 12 minutes or until lightly golden.
