Italian Inspired Bologna Sausage Gratin
Ingredients
- 800 g / 1.76 lb bologna sausage
- 500 ml / 2.1 cups crème fraîche (or sour cream)
- 125 g / 4.4 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 100 g / 3.5 oz sun-dried tomatoes, drained and sliced
- 100 g / 3.5 oz black olives, pitted and halved
- 2.5 g / ½ tsp salt
- 2.5 g / ½ tsp black pepper (coarsely ground preferred)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 225°C (425°F)
2. Slice the bologna sausage into 1 cm (½ inch) thick rounds and arrange in a single layer in a 30 cm (12 inch) round baking dish
3. In a large bowl, combine crème fraîche, salt, and pepper
4. Stir in shredded mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and olives until evenly mixed
5. Pour the mixture over the sausage, distributing ingredients evenly and coating each piece
6. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are bubbling
7. Let rest 5 minutes before serving to thicken the sauce slightly
8. Serve warm with pasta, rice, or boiled potatoes
