Ingredients
  • 500 grams (1.1 pounds) ground beef or beef-pork mixture
  • 45 milliliters (3 tablespoons) breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 120 milliliters (1/2 cup) grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 5 milliliters (1 teaspoon) salt
  • 2.5 milliliters (1/2 teaspoon) black pepper
  • 30 milliliters (2 tablespoons) finely chopped fresh basil
  • 700 milliliters (24 fluid ounces) tomato sauce crushed tomatoes or marinara
  • 4 servings dried pasta such as spaghetti or penne
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Additional grated parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)

2. In a large bowl combine ground beef breadcrumbs egg parmesan cheese garlic salt pepper and basil Mix gently with hands or wooden spoon until just combined

3. Form 20 to 25 meatballs about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide

4. Arrange meatballs on parchment-lined baking sheet spacing evenly

5. Bake 18 to 20 minutes until fully cooked and golden brown

6. Cook pasta according to package directions for al dente Drain and set aside

7. Heat tomato sauce in large saucepan over medium heat

8. Gently place baked meatballs into sauce Reduce heat to low cover and simmer 10 to 15 minutes

9. Spoon pasta onto plates Top with meatballs and sauce

10. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and additional parmesan cheese
