Spicy Mustard Herring with Smoky Whiskey
- 420g (15 oz) Herring Fillets
- 200g (7 oz) Spicy Mustard
- 120ml (½ cup US or ½ dl EU) Smoky Whiskey
- 120ml (½ cup US or ½ dl EU) Mayonnaise
- Salt and Black Pepper, to taste
1. Preheat your refrigerator to its coldest setting, typically around 3°C or 37°F.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of spicy mustard, 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
3. Open the package of herring fillets and carefully pour off the liquid.
4. Add the herring fillets to the bowl with the mustard mixture and gently fold them in until they are evenly coated.
5. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
6. Just before serving, stir in 1 tablespoon of smoky whiskey.
7. Serve the spicy mustard herring chilled, garnished with fresh parsley or dill if desired.
