Swedish-Style Beef Patties with Lingonberry Jam and Pickled Onions

Swedish-Style Beef Patties with Lingonberry Jam and Pickled Onions
These tender beef patties deliver pure comfort with minimal fuss. Creamy potatoes, sharp quick-pickled onions, and sweet-tart lingonberry jam create that perfect Swedish balance—rich meat cut through by bright acidity. No special techniques needed, just honest ingredients working in harmony. It’s the kind of meal that feels like home on a plate when you need real satisfaction without complications.
Ingredients
  • 500 g (1.1 lb) ground beef
  • 30 g (3 tablespoons) oatmeal
  • 1 large egg
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) potato starch
  • 5 g (1 teaspoon) salt
  • 1.5 g (1/2 teaspoon) black pepper
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • 1 medium red onion thinly sliced
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) apple cider vinegar
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) water
  • 15 g (1 tablespoon) sugar
  • 5 g (1 teaspoon) salt for pickling
  • 800 g (1.8 lb) potatoes peeled and cut into chunks
  • Salt for boiling potatoes
  • 120 ml (1/2 cup) lingonberry jam
Instructions

1. Combine sliced red onion vinegar water sugar and 1 teaspoon salt in a bowl. Stir until dissolved. Set aside for 20 minutes stirring occasionally.

2. Place potatoes in a large pot cover with cold water and add a generous pinch of salt. Bring to boil then reduce heat and simmer until fork-tender 15-20 minutes. Drain and keep warm.

3. In a medium bowl mix oatmeal egg potato starch 1 teaspoon salt and black pepper. Add ground beef and gently combine until just incorporated.

4. Divide mixture into 4 equal portions. Shape each into a patty 1.5 cm (0.6 inch) thick.

5. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 71°C (160°F).

6. Drain patties on paper towels. Serve immediately with potatoes drained pickled onions and lingonberry jam.
