Sweet Anise Fritters in Deep Frying

- 750g / 1.65 lbs coconut oil for deep-frying
- 500g / 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 100g / 3.5 oz unsalted butter
- 100g / 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 50g / 1.76 oz active dry yeast for sweet dough
- 475ml / 5 dl / 2 cups whole milk
- 6g / 2 tsp anise seeds
- 5g / 1 tsp salt
1. Preheat your deep fryer to 350°F or 180°C, ready for frying.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 250g or 2 1/4 cups of flour, 100g or 1/2 cup of sugar, and 6g or 1 teaspoon of salt.
3. Add 115g or 1/2 cup of softened butter to the bowl, mixing the ingredients together until a dough forms.
4. Gradually pour in 120ml or 1/2 cup of milk while continuing to mix, until you're left with a smooth dough.
5. Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about an hour.
6. Divide the dough into small balls, roughly the size of a walnut.
7. Deep-fry these dough balls in batches until they turn golden brown and crispy. This will take around 3-4 minutes per batch.
8. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off any excess oil.
9. Serve the warm fritters straight away and enjoy!
